Purchase Team Headed to Ormoc & Cebu

By: Nelia Adona

(One of the challenges that we are anticipating when we start the housing construction at Pope Francis Village is scouting for suppliers offering cheaper quotes for construction materials in Tacloban City. In view of this, FRANCESCO and the Community Support Group decided to look for other potential suppliers in Ormoc and Cebu last February 22-26, 2016. I went there with Rosana Danao, one of the Purchase Team members  and Architect Honeyleth Balunso.

(We dropped-by at Santo Niño Church to ask for spiritual guidance for our 4-day stay in Cebu. Amidst the extremely hot weather, we managed to visit big suppliers of steel, cement, lumber and roofing materials. Since February 25 was declared as an official holiday in commemoration of the EDSA Revolution, most of the hardware stores were close. We took this as an opportunity to visit a community-managed housing project in Lower Tipolo, Mandaue City, which just like Pope Francis Village, also spotlighted the important role of communities in project implementation. The houses are beautiful and durably constructed. Having seen this, we were inspired to continue our active involvement in all processes relative to the implementation of Pope Francis Village.

(I am very happy and grateful that I was able to stepped in Cebu for the first time  and perform our responsibility as members of the Purchase Team.  Apart from applying our learning from the procurement workshop, we also gained new experiences in dealing with big suppliers.)

After consolidating all the canvass forms, the Purchase team
plotted all the price quotations in a tally board to determine
the suppliers offering the cheapest quotes.
